We draw the patterns. A contract printer prints them.
Hantelix makes ten wallpapers: five patterns in two colourways each. Every pattern starts with something you can still find on a Hong Kong street, and every roll is printed to order on non-woven paper.
Where the patterns come from
Grille comes from the fan-topped iron grilles on older tenement windows. Terrazzo comes from stairwells and shop floors laid in chips of stone. Mosaic is the small square tile of old bathrooms and lobbies.
Scaffold is bamboo scaffolding, drawn as poles, braces and lashings. Awning is the striped canvas over market stalls. We redraw each one as a flat print: no faux texture, no metallic ink, no photographic effects.
Who makes the paper
We do not own a print works. Our designs are printed for us by a contract wallpaper printer on a non-woven base, using water-based pigment inks with a matt finish. We say so because it matters when you are deciding who to trust with the walls of a room: the design, the choice of paper and the responsibility for what arrives are ours.
Printing to order means we do not hold stock of printed rolls. It also means each order is printed as one batch. Colour can shift slightly between batches, so order every roll a room needs at the same time.
What we will not claim
- That the paper is handmade or hand-printed. It is digitally printed.
- That it is as tough as vinyl. It is wipeable, not scrubbable, and it is not for splash zones.
- Environmental certifications we cannot show you paperwork for.
